Numbness from Wasit to Feet

Post a new topicby RickyMalin on Sun Apr 06, 2008 7:53 pm

Hi There,

I hope this is in the correct section.

I am Male, 27 years old and an active person.

From Wednesday (3rd March 08) i have had a numbness sensation from my waist down to my feet, and this includes all areas..
It started off with a slight pins and needles feeling in my legs, but has gradually began to get worse.
I went to my Doctor on Monday who examined me and came to the conclusion that i have a trapped nerve. And that was it - he sent me on my way and said give it a few days.
I don't believe that a trapped nerve could cause so much uncomfort!

I have a history of blood clotting due to a blood disorder which i was diagnosed with some years back ( Factor V Leiden Mutation ) I was prescribed Warfarin which i took for a couple of years until the Doctor said i didnt need to carry on taking them, i havent taken Warfarin for roughly 4 years.
My last complaints of anything similar to this would have been about 4 years ago when i had a slight numbness sensation like i do now, only it wasnt half as bad and only lasted for a day or two.

I am being advised to go to my Local hospital A&E but i feel like it will be a waste of time, should i return to my Doctor or can someone give me a bit of info - If they have experienced something similar or know someone who has had these problems and what should i do.

Many thanks

Ricky

Went to Casualty, the Dr was baffled - Doesnt know what it was, told me to Monitor myself for a week and if symptoms persist to go see my GP who will refer me to a neurologist.
He did say however should i start to get any pains in my legs or impaired vision of any sort then i should go back to casualty.

This is weird and i still have no answers nearly one week and 3 Dr's later.

She is better. Remember she is a diabetic. I am sorry that there has not been a solid answer for you. I know that feeling. I also know the feeling of not trusting doctors. At least here where I live in Miami, the is a lot of Health care fraud and doctors like to make up illnesses to make money. I wouldnt give up and get as many opinions as possible.
Just curious, how were they able to rule out all those illnessses? What kind of tests where you run?

Hello,

They did extensive blood work for Any and all autoimmune diseases - Lyme, heavy metals, thyroid, metabolism, diabetes - spinal tap to check the fluid for infection or high protiens that might be cancer - they also did 2 brain scans and 4 back MRIs with everything showing negative.

I am on neurontin and it does not seem to help me at all - I also had several nerve tests done that came back as there is no damage.

the numbness is several things - I have tingling - prickling - electrical type pain - pressure like being squeezed too tight and like I have clothes on all the time even though I dont.

They have said it is Idiopathic peripheral neuropathy - which means they have no idea the source or cause.

I am tired or it - they say maybe in 3 months it will go away - not sure where they come up with that.
