Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in women worldwide. Early diagnosis and treatment can lead to successful outcomes for many patients. Breast cancer screening involves breast awareness and familiarity (e.g., performing monthly breast self-examinations), yearly clinical exams, and regular mammograms beginning at age 40 (or younger in women who are at increased risk for breast cancer).
Since most women diagnosed with breast cancer do not have any identifiable risk factors for the disease, and because early detection can help improve the prognosis, it is important for women to speak with their health care provider about maintaining breast health.
